It shouldn’t be a surprise that we’re big fans of Formula SAE and Baja SAE around here. Administered by colleges and trade schools across the globe, these educational programs offer real-world, hands-on wrenching, design, and racing experiences to students pursuing careers in the motorsports and automotive industries.
A while back, we sat down with Eric Franz, chairperson of the Cleveland, Ohio section of the Society of Automotive Engineers, to talk all about Formula SAE and Baja SAE for an episode of The Speed Article® Podcast. You can check out that interview here:
But if you want a more visual explanation of these programs, watch the video below.
Since Summit Racing is a proud supporter of Baja SAE and Formula SAE, the company invited students from northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania to the Summit Racing Retail Store outside Akron, Ohio to display their rides and talk about the immense benefits of these programs.
Hearing about their experiences and seeing their race vehicles firsthand was, in a word, impressive.
What’s perhaps more interesting though, is that Formula SAE and Baja SAE require a massive range of skillsets. From engineering to design, finance to marketing, these programs attract students from every academic discipline. So even if you don’t want to turn a wrench or spend hours in AutoCAD, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find a role on one of these student race teams.
